General Studies

THE GENERAL STUDIES MINOR

Starting with the fall semester, 2001, all students entering the General Studies program must satisfy the requirements for a minor to receive a Bachelor of General Studies degree. And starting with the fall semester of 2003, students are also required to earn at least a C in each required course. Students should see their General Studies advisor as early as possible during their freshman year to choose (declare) a minor. This choice will be written on your checklist and becomes a part of your checklist. All students must sign the checklist on which they have declared their minor.

A minor is a specific area of study in a particular discipline. The minor is similar to a major, but fewer courses are required. The courses required for a minor are determined by the department where these minor courses are taught. For instance, the Department of Mathematics determines what courses must be taken to fulfill the requirements for a minor in Mathematics.

The following pages contain a listing of all of the minors that a student might choose. The minors are listed by department and contain the names of the courses that a student must take.

Again, it is very important that students in General Studies declare for a minor as early as possible in the freshman year. See your advisor about this very important decision and make sure that you have signed the checklist that contains your declared minor.
