GTG is an early childhood learning center facility housed on the Nicholls State University campus as a part of the College of Education. This Type III preschool center provides quality care and unique learning experiences for children 6 weeks to 6 years of age. The center also provides NSU candidates majoring in Education, Nursing, and Communicative Disorders with hands-on learning experiences in a lab-school setting. This type of setting is extremely beneficial in that it fosters learning for both the NSU Teacher Education candidates and the children in GTG.
It is our mission to provide the highest quality education for the children within our center while at the same time providing NSU education candidates effective training opportunities. To that end, the GTG Teachers, the NSU Interns, the Education Practitioners, and the Student Workers work together as a team assisting the center’s children with all domains of development: cognitive, emotional, social and physical. Our philosophy is guided by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) guidelines in that developmentally appropriate practices are the best practices for effective education and quality development of young children. Implementation of the NAEYC guidelines and the Louisiana Early Development Standards (ELDS) ensures that student goals and experiences are rigorous while remaining age, individually and culturally appropriate. This ultimately prepares each child for future academic success and a love for learning.
An important part of our preschool team are the parents and families. In an effort to obtain input and continually improve our school, please use the link below to make any recommendations, comments or suggestions.
