Notes
|
| Purpose |
- To receive feedback, input, recommendations, etc. regarding the programs and services offered by UHS and UCC;
- Generate new ideas to meet the needs of students, faculty and staff.
|
| Review of Services and Programs |
Programs and services were reviewed briefly. Attendees were asked to review brochures and visit Web sites. |
| UCC Accreditation Status |
Highlights of accreditation report from November 2005 site visit were reviewed.
- Space issue: it was recommended that UCC approach UCC about space usage; discussed challenges of options such as housing one counselor in UHS or using rooms in union for group counseling, etc.
- Testing issue: discussed that if testing services comes to fruition it would be limited to personality and career type of instruments
- Student workers: discussed IACS concern about having student workers at front desk; this board indicated concern as well
- Counselors not enough time to see clients and do outreach they would like to and need to. Suggestions included using externs, having an extra G.A. housed somewhere else due to space issue and collaborating with other departments. Noted that although these would help increase outreach, does not assist with need for current counselors to be able to do other professional activities other than direct counseling.
|
| UHS Accreditation Status |
UHS accreditation still being investigated. Currently, UHS working toward CAS review which will provide some assessment of department. |
| Perception of UHS and UCC |
Discussion included:
- Nontraditional students assume services are for on-campus students only;
- Students in general don’t always know these services exist;
- Suggested that focus on administrative assistants because of their contact with students — make sure they know about services;
- Include in advising — noted that there is a session included in the master adviser training about these services;
- Reach commuter students in lunch/eating area with information.
|
| Student Health Insurance |
Discussion included:
- Need to outreach to area doctors to have them accept student insurance;
- Students need to be active in making sure insurance pay doctor;
- Have insurance representative set up table in union lobby in addition to sitting in SGA office.
|
| Meningitis |
Members were informed of bill in Senate concerning possibly mandating meningococcal vaccination for students entering into college and the meningitis forum planned for May 4. Suggestions and comments included:
- Making vaccination a mandatory requirement of immunizations for college entrance;
- Education and awareness for students.
