VISTA Member Assignment

Nicholls State University seeks an AmeriCorp VISTA who will support campus efforts to develop and expand current service-learning and civic engagement activities. He/she will report to Prof. Morris Coats, Chairman of the Service Learning Committee, and will be housed at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. This AmeriCorp VISTA position is a subsite of the Louisiana Campus Compact VISTA project.

VISTA Member Assignment Description

The AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader will:

  • Coordinate and support the work of campus wide service-learning and civic engagement activities.
  • Facilitate the development of formal partnerships between community organizations and the campus.
  • Assist faculty in implementing service learning courses into the existing curriculum.
  • Research financial, in-kind and other potential resources for campus service-learning and civic engagement projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of postsecondary service-learning and civic engagement efforts.
  • Ability to collaborate with students, faculty, administrators as well as community-based organizations.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess strong organizational skills, including training, project management, public speaking, event planning and implementation.
  • Ability to drive and have access to a vehicle (for placements in areas without adequate public transportation).

Preferred Qualification

  • Baccalaureate degree.
