The Louisiana Center for Women & Government 2008 Hall of Fame induction ceremony will feature Connie Chung as the keynote speaker. The first woman to become a nightly news anchor for a major network, Chung will replace Dixie Carter, who canceled her appearance for health reasons.

An award-winning investigative reporter and one of the most recognizable faces on American television, Chung has been a powerful force in the news industry for more than 35 years. As a lecturer she draws on her unique experiences as a working mother and Asian-American in addressing the challenges today’s women face, advocating diversity in the workplace and inspiring younger journalists to make a difference in their local communities and worldwide.

The first Asian-American and only the second woman to serve as nightly news anchor on a major TV network, CBS, Chung has received innumerable accolades for her work, including three national Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award and two commendations from American Women in Radio and Television. In 2000, she was honored by Amnesty International for her report on the abuse of young women in Bangladesh. A working mother herself, Chung has also been a vocal advocate for mothers and expecting women in the workplace.

The luncheon and ceremony will feature the induction of Kitty DeGree of Monroe, Sandy Rosenthal of New Orleans, Dr. Dolores Spikes of Baton Rouge and Phyllis Taylor of New Orleans into the Hall of Fame of the Louisiana Center for Women & Government at Nicholls.
