Instructor of English

Becky Jones LeBlanc was born and raised in Thibodaux, Louisiana, as the oldest of seven children. Growing up on Goode Street, she walked around the block each morning to attend school at Mt. Carmel Academy. It was on one of these walks that she met her future husband, Mike LeBlanc, who was walking to school at Thibodaux High. Becky attended Nicholls State College in her junior year as an Early Admissions student; graduated from E. D. White in 1967, and then attended the University of Dallas on a full scholarship. She returned to Nicholls a year later and graduated with a B. A. in English in 1970. After graduation, she and her husband moved to New Orleans where she attended graduate school in English at UNO while Mike went to dental school at LSU. While at UNO, Becky taught Freshman Composition as a graduate assistant. In 1971, she joined the faculty at St. James Major High School, teaching American Literature and British Literature.

Four years later, LeBlanc moved to 29 Palms, California, with husband Mike and daughter Angelle for a two-year tour of duty with the U. S. Navy before returning to Thibodaux in 1977. She returned to Nicholls as a graduate student in Education, teaching freshman composition as a graduate assistant before joining the faculty at E. D. White as a teacher of 9^th and 10^th grade English. When her husband decided to open a dental practice in Hammond in 1980, LeBlanc taught 8^th grade English for one year at Holy Ghost Catholic School. Four children and four years later, the LeBlanc family returned to Thibodaux.

For the next 10 years, LeBlanc spent her time raising four children, serving as president of the Thibodaux Service League, PTC president and School Board member of St. Joseph Elementary, graduate assistant to Dr. Jim Barr in the Education Department at Nicholls, 7^th grade English teacher at St. Genevieve School, and American Literature teacher at Vandebilt Catholic High School. She came to Nicholls in 1995 as an Instructor of English and developed the first online courses in the Department of Language and Literature.

Mrs. LeBlanc currently serves as a member of the Faculty Senate at Nicholls, a member of the University Distance Education Committee, secretary of the Fletcher committee, chairman of the L&L Department Technology/WWW Committee, member of the Freshman English Committee, chairman of the department Recruitment Committee. She teaches English 101, English 102, English 255, English 256, and online courses in English 255 and 256.
