Dr. Windy S. Rachal

Assistant Professor of English

Dr. Windy Rachal was born in New Orleans and moved to Thibodaux as a child. She graduated from St. Joseph, E.D.White and Nicholls before leaving the area to continue her education. She received her M.A. in technical writing from the University of North Texas and her Ph.D. in composition and rhetoric from Ball State University. After working as a web developer and technical writer in Indianapolis and Cincinnati, she returned to Thibodaux to teach at her alma mater in 2001. She has a husband, who also teaches at Nicholls, and two young children. In addition to serving as an assistant professor of English, Rachal is also the coordinator of university policies and procedures and director of advanced writing.

ENGL 310. Business Communications (.doc). 3-3-0. Prerequisites: C or better in ENGL 102 and junior standing. Fundamental business communication theory, business letters and reports. (Credit toward graduation may be earned in either ENGL 310 or BSAD 310, but not in both). (23.1101)

ENGL 467. Writing for the Web (.doc). 3-3-0. Prerequisites: C or better in ENGL 102 and junior standing. Preparation of Web-based communications with particular attention to writing style, linking strategies and usability. (23.1101)

ENGL 468. Technical Writing for the Sciences (.doc). 3-3-0. Prerequisites: C or better in ENGL 102. Application of writing skills to specialized tasks in technical and scientific areas. Individual and collaborative writing projects. (23.0101)

Research interests:
Predictors of achievement in writing, technology in writing instruction and effects of writing on self-efficacy and stress following trauma.
