Poetry Contest

NICHOLLS STATE UNIVERSITY ENGLISH SOCIETY

PRESENTS APRIL POETRY CONTEST

 

 

Poetry Contest Guidelines:

 

NOTE:  IF GUIDELINES ARE NOT FOLLOWED, POEM WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

 

You must have attended at least one meeting or activity sponsored by the English Society this semester (Spring 2009) (as verified by English Society officers).  No dues are necessary to become a member.

 

Poem must be typed on standard white 8-1/2 X 11 paper in Times New Roman 12 pt. font.

 

Poem should be no longer than 100 lines.

 

Submit two copies

One copy should include the following:

Student’s name, classification, and student ID number, along with a statement and the student’s signature at the bottom of the page giving permission to publish.

 

The second copy will include the name of the poem and the poem ONLY.  DO NOT INCLUDE STUDENT NAME OR INFORMATION.

 

Bring submissions to Ms. Vanessa Gathen, Secretary for the Department of Language and Literature one week prior to the English Society’s April Poetry Reading at Cherry Books in Thibodaux.

 

Winner must be present at the English Society’s poetry reading.

 

All participants are required to read their poems at the English Society poetry reading (or have their poems read) in April at Cherry Books.

 

Prize:  $50 from Thunder Rain Publishing Corp.

Poem will be published in L’Intrigue Webzine, www.lintrigue.org and also Mosaic.

 

Other poems may also be selected for publication.

 

Winner will be announced at the poetry reading in April.
