Any enrolled student, or current
faculty or staff member may use the library’s databases from home.Just click on the link for the database you wish to use, just as if you were on
campus.Due to restrictions from the
database providers, Commerce Clearing House Tax Research
Guide and NutriBase are not available for off-campus use. The rest of the library's
databases can be used from home.
How do I log into the databases from home?
There are two methods for login to the databases, for each you'll need two piece of information.
You can login using your library account or your regular network login.
To login using your library account, you'll need your Library Alt ID and Library PIN. Your Alt ID is your university issued campus number. (8 numbers--no dashes or spaces).
Enter your Alt ID in the appropriate box, then enter your PIN in the following box.
Until you change it, your PIN would be CHANGEME. (It will appear as asterisks in the box.)
Enter your network username in the first box and your network password in the second box. Then, click Authenticate.
What if I changed my PIN, but don’t remember it.
Now, eLibrary can email your PIN to your Nicholls email address. From eLibrary,
click on My Account. Then,
click I forgot my library PIN.
Enter your campus ID number and click Send PIN. Your PIN should arrive in your Nicholls email in a few minutes.
If I was a student in the Spring Semester, but not in the Summer
Semester, will my PIN be reset to CHANGEME.
Normally, sitting out a semester or two will not cause your PIN to default back to CHANGEME.
Remember when you are not enrolled, you no longer have the same
library privileges as enrolled students.
Do I need to do anything special to use the library’s databases from
home?
Just always utilize the links found on the library’s website. Often links to
databases change for various reasons. Because of this, the library can only assist you in obtaining access if
you are using the links directly from the library’s home page. All of our databases
work best using Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 7 or 8, and
Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.
