We all need a little help sometimes. So if you find yourself in a quandry about research or documentation issues, the Ellender Memorial Library reference staff will be able to help you. Our reference librarians can be found at the desk on the second floor of the library, and each librarian also has an office, located on the second floor, in rooms 225, 229, and 230, and on the third floor, in 325. If you would like to schedule a Research Assistance appointment, just find a librarian whose expertise is compatible with your assignment, and contact that librarian for an appointment.
Tony Fonseca
Tony Fonseca has an MLIS from Louisiana State University and a PhD in English Literature from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is a native of Houma and did his undergraduate work in English here at Nicholls in the 1980s. He is co-author of Hooked on Horror (1999, 2003) and Read On....Horror (2006), and is a contributor to the Dictionary of Literary Biography: Asian American Writers, Supernatural Literature of the World (a three volume encyclopedia), and Icons of the Supernatural and is the co-editor of Necropsy: The Review of Horror Fiction . Tony's areas of specialization include Literature, including academic texts (the stuff you read in literature classes) and popular texts (Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror especially), History, Political Science, Business/Finance, Art, Music, Sports, and Popular Culture. He is expert at database and Internet searching.

Melissa Goldsmith
Melissa Goldsmith has a CLIS, MLIS, and PhD in musicology from Louisiana State University and an MA in music and BA in music and biochemistry from Smith College. Goldsmith’s articles focus on film and film music, modern and postmodern aesthetics, and popular music. They include “Montage, Music, and Memory: Remembering Deutschland im Herbst (Germany in Autumn, 1978)” in Kinoeye, “Lounge Caravan: A Selective Discography” in Notes (the journal of the Music Library Association), “Context, Theme, and Tone in Adorno’s Writings about Mahler and His Music” in Naturlaut (the journal of the Gustav Mahler Society of Chicago), and “Film Music: Interdisciplinary Scholarship, Analysis, Criticism, and Theory” in Choice. Her book reviews appear in Choice, The Journal of Film Music, and Screening the Past. She has chaired panel sessions at Annual National Meetings of the American Musicological Society and has presented papers at the Annual National Meetings of the AMS, the Music Library Association, and the International Symposium on Electronic Theses and Dissertations.

Jean-Mark Sens
Jean-Mark Sens, a published poet, holds graduate degrees in English from the University of Southern Mississippi, an M.L.I.S. from the University of South Carolina, and undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Sorbonne and from Paris VII as well as an Associate degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales. He is Collection Development Librarian. His areas of expertise include Culinary Arts, Dietetics/Nutrition, Literature and Languages, and Creative Writing. He has also worked as Administrative Assistant for Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries, and Library Assistant at the School of Medicine Library, University of South Carolina in Columbia.

Van Viator
Van Viator has an MLIS from Louisiana State University. He reviews fiction for Choice and Louisiana Libraries, and is a contributor to the Supernatural Literature of the World (a three volume encyclopedia). Van's areas of specialization include Popular Culture, Music, Drama, Information Literacy (Bibliographic Instruction), and Business/Finance. He is an expert researcher, in both print and online formats.
