Every Mass Communication major at Nicholls State University must complete four basic core courses:
Mass Communication 101 — Survey of Mass Communication
Mass Communication 251 — News Writing
Mass Communication 355 — History and Principles of Mass Communication
Mass Communication 370 — Mass Communication Law and Ethics
In addition to these courses, every student must complete five additional courses related to his or her Mass Communication specialty. The requirements for these specialties include the courses listed below and nine hours of mass communication electives.

Mass Communication 361 — Television Production
Mass Communication 364, 365, 366* — Television Workshop (1 hr. each) (CLR)

Are there scholarships available to students majoring in Mass Communication?
Yes. There are currrently 10 scholarships dedicated to Mass Communication majors. About $17,000 was awarded last year to Mass Communication majors from these scholarships. You can find out more about available scholarships at the SCHOLARSHIPS page or wour website.

How many hours are required for a Mass Communication degree?
- 120 total hours:
- 36 of which are Mass Communication courses
- English 101, 102, and 251/252 or 255/256
- History 101, 102
- Mathematics 101, and 102 or 105
- University Studies, 101
- Natural Science Electives, 9 hours
- Foreign Language, 6 hours
- Government 101 and 6 hours of Social Science Electives (3 hours 200 level or above)
- Speech 101
- Arts Electives, 9 hours (Art, Music, Speech, Fine Arts)
- Health & Physical Education, 2 hours
- 21 hours of General Electives (can be used for minor)

Are Internships available?
Yes. Many of our seniors find internships that offer experience in their field before graduation. Some internships are already established and others are found by the students themselves. You should be a senior with only your capstone course left in your area of concentration before applying for an internship because we want you to have skills to impress the employer offering the internship.More details can be found through your advisor and the MACO Internship Handbook found at the Handbooks and Publications link on the MACO webpage.
