Assistant Professor of Management
Jeff Haynie joined Nicholls State University as an Assistant Professor of Management in 2012. He holds a Bachelors of Science from Louisiana State University (LSU), an MBA from the University of New Orleans (UNO), and a PhD from Auburn University. At UNO, he worked as a graduate research assistant while pursuing his studies and was encouraged there by professors to seek his doctorate degree. Through several years of dedication, he completed his doctoral studies at Auburn University in Spring 2013. His dissertation is titled, “A combined model of uncertainty management theory and the group engagement model of identity.” Building upon his dissertation, Jeff wants to continue work in organizational justice as well as complementary areas including core self-evaluations and relational trust. Jeff’s research has appeared in management journals including Small Group Research and Management & Marketing. He is also active in the academic community through presenting his research and volunteering at both Academy of Management and Southern Management Association conferences.
As an academic, Jeff believes teaching is an integral part of a scholarly career which should coincide with good research. In other words, teaching and research are not mutually exclusive but are complementary areas. In fact, he makes sure the latest management techniques and knowledge are introduced in the classroom so students are aware of the challenges and coping tactics needed for the fast-changing, modern workplace that they will enter. Additionally, to ensure student engagement and learning, Jeff makes it a point to view each student as unique with differing skills and learning styles. Therefore, it is critical to utilize various modes of instruction and one-on-one interactions to meet all individual needs. Students appreciate the individualized consideration and return their appreciation through participating in the classroom discussions. Being an organizational justice researcher, Jeff wants his classrooms to be fair environments, so he supplies every class with clear expectations for success and holds every student to those standards.
In his spare time, Jeff enjoys trail riding and other outdoor activities. He is a big football fan and makes sure to watch LSU and Saints games throughout the fall. Growing up in Louisiana has also given Jeff a strong appreciation for food, and he takes every opportunity to sample and cook the local Louisiana fare. As his at Nicholls progresses, he hopes to be a strong asset to the University, the College of Business, the Department of Management, his students, and the local community.
