Coupled with the Management degree, the Maritime Management Concentration will prepare the student for a career in general management in the maritime industry. Particular focus is on the oil and gas sector and requirements of the shipowner, as well as periphery businesses. The student will receive exposure to commercial, legal and financial areas unique to this sector of the shipping industry.
UNIQUE
The Maritime Management Concentration is the only business program in the state designed specifically to address the needs of the oil and gas sector of the maritime industry. Funded and developed by regional maritime related firms, the program is designed to create additional value for both students and employers. While the program has a focus on maritime issues, it is incorporated into the four year management degree. As a result, students maintain flexibility in pursuing careers in not only the maritime industry but also in those that support the industry and the business world in general.
COURSES
In addition to the more traditional courses in the management degree, students will enroll in courses specifically designed to address issues faced by firms competing in the maritime industry. The courses include:
Introduction to Maritime Management
Admiralty Law
Economics of Shipping
Marine Accident Prevention
Summer Internship
The summer internships are developed and approved by the College of Business and firms in the industry. They are designed to provide students with relevant hands-on experience in the field.
