The College of Business Administration boasts some of the most technologically advanced and specialized classrooms and facilities on the Nicholls State University campus. Dr. Allayne “Laynie” Barrilleaux is responsible for helping secure the first grant which helped make this happen.

Funds from the grant secured by Barrilleaux and Dr. Elizabeth Lafleur, former faculty member, were used to create the college’s Behavioral Classroom, a flexible learning environment that contains two-way mirrors and an observation room for experimental research and focus groups. The room also contains video-audio equipment, computer equipment, a video camera and other multi-media equipment.

“We were pleased to discover that students felt a great sense of pride when they could schedule a class in this room, and the use of the facility led to greater interactions among students and between students and the professor,” Barrilleaux says.

Barrilleaux began her career at Nicholls in 1981 as a management instructor. She has since held various positions including associate professor, department head, professor, distinguished service professor, assistant vice president for academic affairs and SACS liaison.

For the past 20 years, Barrilleaux has conducted training on leadership and interpersonal skills and facilitated strategic planning for many area businesses and agencies. She has also served as a member of the United Way for South Louisiana Board, Executive Board of Thibodaux Rotary and Executive Board of Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce.

Barrilleaux was also actively involved during her college days at Louisiana State University and Nicholls. At LSU, she served as president of Tri Delta sorority and was named to Who’s Who at LSU. She also was president of the MBA Association at Nicholls and took a three-week graduate class in Japan where she stayed with local families and visited businesses throughout the country.

Barrilleaux enjoys spending her spare time relaxing with family and friends, traveling, reading and playing tennis and the piano.
