Dr. Luke Cashen
Dr. Luke Cashen is currently an Assistant Professor of Management in the Management and Marketing Department in the College of Business at Nicholls State University. He has been employed by the University since August of 2004. Luke’s primary teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate capstone business courses in strategic management, as well courses in multinational management and human relations. His teaching and service to his students have earned him the College of Business 2007 Excellence in Teaching Award, as well as the 2006-2007 and 2008-2009 Apple Award – Contributing to the Success of Graduates.
Luke’s doctoral work was completed in 2005 at LSU in the area of strategic management. Specifically, his dissertation title was “Governance Structures in the Post Asset Restructuring Period: Responses by Boards of Directors and Top Managers to Institutional Pressures”. In addition to his doctoral degree, Luke has a B.S. in Economics and MBA from LSU. His research areas of interest include restructuring, governance, executive compensation, and institutional theory. Luke’s research has appeared in Journal of Managerial Issues, Organizational Research Methods, Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal, and Journal of Applied Psychology. Additionally, Luke is active at presenting his research at national and regional conferences, such as the Academy of Management, Southern Management Association, and Allied Academies.
Luke is actively engaged in service on a variety of levels. At the University level, he serves on the Graduate Council, General Education Assessment, and the Discipline Committees. Additionally, he assists in recruiting for Graduate Studies. At the College level, Luke is the chair of the Graduate Program & Instruction Committee and actively recruits for the MBA programs. At the Department level, Luke is actively engaged in student advising, serves as the liaison between the Department and University College, and serves as a representative at freshman orientation.
In addition to his responsibilities of Assistant Professor of Management, Luke is the Director of the Executive MBA Program. He was appointed to this position in December of 2008. His duties include managing the program’s day-to-day issues, as well as promotion and recruitment for the program.
