Dr. Luke Cashen

Dr. Luke Cashen says put his “heart, soul, blood, sweat, tears” and three years of his life into his dissertation research project. However, even though the project is completed and Cashen has earned his doctorate, he continues to research topics stemming from his dissertation.

“My research focuses on corporate restructuring, corporate governance and institutional theory,” Cashen says. “I am interested in why organizations engage in divestiture behavior and the resulting impact on governance practices, as well as the implications for organizational performance.”

Before starting at Nicholls in 2004, Cashen taught management courses at Louisiana State University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has also taught business policy and strategy courses for the Executive Education program at LSU for the past six years. Prior to entering academia, Cashen was a management associate for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta in New Orleans.

Cashen says the greatest strengths of the Department of Management and Marketing are the faculty members who are genuinely concerned for the welfare of the students.

“My colleagues are passionate about teaching and provide a superb educational experience to their students,” Cashen says. “Teaching students and getting them to think critically about management topics is very rewarding for me.”

Cashen devotes his spare time to his family members, who are the source of his inspiration and his biggest fans.
