REGISTRATION DEADLINE: March 20, 2013 (Wednesday)

 

Interested applicants must be a Nicholls student or accepted to Nicholls for the Fall 2013 semester. Those selected for the squad must be enrolled as a full-time student and enroll in the required courses during the Fall 2013 semester. Previous dance training is highly recommended. Those selected for the Nicholls Colonelettes are expected to maintain their audition appearance for the entire season. Preseason camp attendance is required. Camp dates will be announced in July.

 

Attire: A solid black one-piece or two-piece leotard is REQUIRED. No t-shirts or shorts will be allowed in the audition room. Your make-up and hairstyle should be worn in a fashion that compliments facial characteristics and must be suitable for performance. All applicants must wear some type of dance or light tennis shoe.

 

Warm-Ups: Applicants will be given 30 minutes for warm-ups (on your own).

 

On-The-Spot Routine: Applicants will be taught an on the spot routine by a professional choreographer, who will be hired by the Department of Music – Band Department. Each applicant will then perform this routine for judging in numerical order. Routine will include kicks, splits, leaps, and/or other fundamentals. Judges may ask for callbacks if necessary.

 

Results: Results will be announced at the conclusion of the audition. The Fall uniform is provided by Nicholls State University. All girls selected will be awarded a service award in the amount of seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750) at the conclusion of the Fall semester. Upon acceptance of membership, the student acknowledges the responsibility to be at ALL rehearsals and performances involving the Colonelettes during the Fall 2013 semester. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the service award and grades will be affected.

 

Captain Tryouts: Candidates for Captain must have successfully completed both semesters as a member of the squad immediately prior to auditions (Fall 2012 and Spring 2013). Captain tryouts will be held once the squad is chosen. Candidates will need to submit a written plan for 5 days of rehearsal with a performance on the 6th day. Candidates will perform their original routine for the judges. Please have four (4) copies of your rehearsal plan and original dance steps available for the judges. An interview is required of each candidate. Results will be announced at the conclusion of the audition.
