Nicholls Fletcher Lecture to Feature Prominent Essayist

Journey from India to Nicholls

THIBODAUX – An educational program about the culture of the Indian subcontinent has been scheduled by Ellender Memorial Library at Nicholls State University at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, in the Plantation Suite in the Bollinger Memorial Student Union. Following a brief film about India, several Nicholls faculty members will discuss the traditions, religions, foods, dress and music of their native countries of India and Nepal. Sumita Bhattacharyya, assistant professor of education; Ramaraj Boopathy, distinguished service professor of biological sciences; Rajkumar Nathaniel, assistant professor of biological sciences; Hemant Patil, visiting assistant professor of finance and economics; and Balaji Ramachandran, assistant professor of geomatics, will talk about India, and Anit Aryal, instructor of mathematics, will discuss Nepal. Book Signing Set with Author Ken Wells Monday, Nov. 5

THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University alumnus Ken Wells, author of the novel “Crawfish Mountain,” scheduled for release by Random House on Oct. 23, will be on campus at 9:40 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, in the Nicholls bookstore to sign copies of his book before leaving on a promotional tour that will take him to several states and New Orleans. Family Day at Nicholls Set for Nov. 10

Chef John Folse Culinary Institute Plans Fundraiser

French Film Series to Begin Wednesday, Nov. 7

Donations Sought for Book Sale

The Friends of Ellender Memorial Library at Nicholls State University is seeking donations of hardback and paperback books, CDs, DVDs and cassette and VHS tapes for its used book sale.

Donations can be dropped off weekdays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the multimedia room on the first floor of the library on the Nicholls campus. All proceeds from the sale, which will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, and from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, will help fund library resources and program activities. Nicholls Players Present – “Oedipus the King”

The Nicholls Players will perform the Greek tragedy, “Oedipus the King,” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, through Saturday, Oct. 27, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, in Talbot Theater on the campus of Nicholls State University. “Oedipus the King,” by Sophocles, is the story of a man who is destined to kill his father and marry his mother. Fate, free will and family relationships are explored in this version of the play, adapted by Dr. Myron Tuman, professor of English, and directed by Dr. Stanley Coleman, assistant professor of speech and theater.
