Family Day at Nicholls Set for Nov. 10

THIBODAUX – The entire Nicholls State University community, including students and their families, is invited to help the university celebrate “Fete de la Famille,” its annual Family Day celebration, on Saturday, Nov. 10, next to John L. Guidry Stadium on the Nicholls campus.

The festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. with live music by Treater and numerous food booths offering jambalaya, hamburgers, nachos, cotton candy, soft drinks and more. Tickets purchased for use at food booths will also be accepted at concession stands inside the stadium during the game.

Children will enjoy jumping in several large inflatables, having their faces painted and making crafts. Nicholls logo merchandise will also be available for sale by the Nicholls Bookstore at the event.

Several departments and organizations, including the biology and nursing departments and the Ag Club, will have displays and interactive games for the children.

Brenda Haskins, executive director of auxiliary services and Family Day Committee chair, said Family Day affords students and their families a relaxing, fun event.

“We enjoy the opportunity to meet parents of students and want them to feel our appreciation for their students attending our university,” she said. “And younger brothers and sisters can learn about Nicholls as well.”

The festivities conclude around 1:30 p.m., just before the 2 p.m. kick-off of the Nicholls-Texas State football game in Guidry stadium. Family Day participants may purchase reduced-admission tickets to the football game for $5 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at West Gate 2 and East Gate 1 of the stadium. After 1:30 p.m., tickets will be sold at regular admission price.

The day starts at 8:30 a.m. with the Stroll for Student-Athlete Scholarships. The 30- to 40-minute route around campus raises funds to support student athlete scholarships. The stroll begins and ends at the Bollinger Memorial Student Union.

The registration fee is $10 per participant, which includes a T-shirt and breakfast. In addition to individual participants, teams can register with a minimum of $100 or more in solicited donations. For more information call (985) 448-4284.

In the event of inclement weather, Family Day activities will be cancelled.
