In his classes, students learn to deliver first rate front-of-the-house service, exceeding the expectations of guests. From ambiance, sanitation and table-setting, to menu presentation, order-taking and wine service, students gain practical, hands-on experience.

Originally from Michigan, Kasten earned an associate degree in culinary arts as well as an associate degree in culinary management from Grand Rapids Community College. He then received a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts from Nicholls.

Kasten teaches several courses, including Principles of Food and Beverage Service; Foodservice Inventory Selection, Procurement and Control; and Beverage Operations. He has also served as Student Knowledge Bowl Team coach; Jubilee dinner coordinator; academic advisor; and United Way campaign representative.
