Nicholls names new student union director

THIBODAUX – Bollinger Memorial Student Union at Nicholls State University recently welcomed Francisco Chacon as its new director.

chacon.jpgWith an extensive resume, including stints as associate director of the University Union at the University of Utah and director of student activities at the University of Southern Colorado, Chacon brings a wealth of experience to his new post.

Community involvement and teamwork and are the keys to improving the Nicholls student union, Chacon said: “One thing I have learned through my experience on several different campuses is that everybody wins when we all work together. I am excited to join the community at Nicholls and look forward to experiencing the campus and local culture in order to identify the expectations of the students and my role within the union.”

Chacon said he plans to engage both the campus and the surrounding community in order to raise funds to “renovate and expand the facility to create a regional community center.”

“My vision is to make the Bollinger Memorial Student Union an award-winning facility and the center of activity in the region,” he said. “We must work to create a vibrant student activities center so that student leaders have the resources to learn valuable skills and create a thriving student life on campus.”

Brenda Haskins, executive director of auxiliary services, said Chacon is a welcome addition to the Nicholls family: “His energy, knowledge of student unions and fresh ideas for programming are exciting. I am counting on Francisco to make the Donald G. Bollinger Student Union an exciting destination for our university community.”Originally from Taos, N.M., Chacon enjoys running and traveling as well as arts and local culture.
