THIBODAUX – Photojournalist Misty McElroy of Houma has joined the Office of University Relations at Nicholls State University.
“We are quite fortunate to have a professional of Misty’s talent and experience on the Nicholls team,” said Renee Piper, director of university relations. “Her expertise and artistry will be evident for all to see, and I know the campus community will be pleased.”
A 2003 Nicholls graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in general studies, McElroy’s duties include photographing events and portraits for the campus Web site, brochures, magazines and other publications; maintaining a searchable photo archive for easy accessibility; and working with campus offices and departments to fulfill their photographic needs.
“My love of photojournalism is sure to be a driving force in the creative process,” McElroy said. “I look forward to drawing upon my knowledge and experience-and of course, learning new photographic techniques-so that the Office of University Relations can continue to showcase the best of what Nicholls has to offer.”
With five years of freelance experience, McElroy’s photography has appeared in USA Today, the New York Post, Prep Sports Online, the Houma Courier and the Daily Comet-featuring such diverse subjects as news events, sporting events, weddings and portraits.
“I also try to attend as many photo conferences as I can,” McElroy said. “Professional development is indeed a priority of mine. Just this summer I attended the National Press Photographers Association’s 19th Annual Women in Photojournalism Conference in New Orleans, along with the annual ‘A Photo A Day’ conference in St. Petersburg, Fla.”McElroy lives with her 6 year-old daughter, Taylor, and two miniature schnauzers. Her hobbies include playing with her daughter and her dogs; interior design; and watching television.
