Nicholls gears for a Tillou Homecoming

THIBODAUX – Themed “Tillou: Dancing through the Decades,” Homecoming Week at Nicholls State University is slated to kick off Sunday, Sept. 20.

120148dz_people“It’s time to get excited about all of the upcoming festivities – especially the football game,” Jessica Harvey, assistant director of alumni affairs, said. “I urge students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to come out and be a part of what is bound to be a fun-filled week, capped off by a game that I’m sure we can win with our new mascot cheering us on.”

Homecoming Week activities will begin on Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. with the annual “Paint the Town, Campus and Cars Red” event – and conclude on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 27, with the closing of the Alumni Tennis Tournament at the Nicholls tennis courts.

The annual Homecoming football game is slated for 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, in John L. Guidry Stadium where the Colonels will take on the Jacksonville State University Gamecocks.

Other Homecoming Week events include the second annual Monster Piano Concert, the Homecoming Golf Tournament and the “Dancing Through the Decades Parade.” A complete schedule of events follows:

Sunday, Sept. 20

Paint the Town, Campus and Cars Red

  • 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The entire Bayou Region is encouraged to support the Colonels by displaying “Geaux Colonel” signs and painting doors and windows red. “Geaux Colonel” signs are available at the Alumni House on Audubon Drive or the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce on Highway 308.

Monday, Sept. 21

  • 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The Student Programming Association will sponsor various activities in the Bollinger Memorial Student Union.

  • 2 – 5 p.m.

The Student Educators and Leaders organization will host a kickball game on the green space on the corner of Highway 1 and Audubon Drive.

Tuesday, Sept. 22

  • Noon

A pep rally sponsored by the Nicholls Student Programming Association, Student Government Association, band and cheerleaders will be conducted at the Bollinger Memorial Student Union. The Homecoming Court will be announced at this time. In case of inclement weather, activities will move to the student union lobby.

Monster Piano Concert

  • 6:30 p.m. – Wine and hors d’oeuvres
  • 7:30 p.m. – Concert

Wednesday, Sept. 23

  • 9 p.m. – Midnight

The Student Homecoming Breakfast and Dance, sponsored by the Student Programming Association, will be held in the Galliano Dining Hall and Cotillion Ballroom of the student union.

Thursday, Sept. 24

  • 2 – 5 p.m.

Pirogue races sponsored by the Student Programming Association will be conducted on the bayou side of campus. Water Day will also be held at this time, in the St. Thomas Aquinas field.

Friday, Sept. 25

  • 8 a.m.

The annual Homecoming Golf Tournament will kick off at Bayou Country Club with a shotgun start, at $100 per golfer. The tourney is a four-person scramble on 18 holes of golf. The fee includes a gift; cart and green fee; coffee; donuts; refreshments and food; and two tickets to the Saturday Homecoming Brunch and Reception.   • 6 p.m.

The College of Business Administration’s Alumni Association will host a Homecoming Social at the College of Business Ponder Room and Courtyard on campus. To RSVP call (985) 448-4172 – or send an e-mail to sue.adams@www.nicholls.edu – by Monday, Sept. 21.

  • 5 – 11 p.m.

A block party will be held in the green space on the west side of Guidry Stadium.

  • 7 – 9 p.m.

The Class of 1959 Reunion will be held in the Captain’s Room of the student union.

Saturday, Sept. 26

  • 10 a.m.

The “Tillou: Dancing Through the Decades” parade will begin at the corner of Ardoyne Drive and Acadia Drive, proceed down LA 1, turn right by the president’s house and end where it began. Call (985) 448-4822 for additional information.

  • 1 – 3 p.m.

The Homecoming Reception and Pep Rally celebration will be held under the big tent in the parking lot on the west side of the stadium. In case of inclement weather, activities will move to the Bollinger Memorial Student Union Lobby. Reception activities include a tribute to the class of 1959; an awards presentation for the golf tournament; the introduction of the Outstanding Alumnus/Alumna for each college; and the introduction of the 2009 Homecoming Court. Tickets must be secured by Monday, Sept. 21. Dues-paying alumni will receive two free tickets. Non-dues paying alumni will be admitted for $15 per person.   • 2:15 p.m.

A pep rally with the Nicholls band and cheerleaders is scheduled during the reception.

  • 3 p.m.

The Colonels football team will play the Jacksonville State University Gamecocks in John L. Guidry Stadium. Tickets are $15 per person for reserved seats. To reserve tickets, call (985) 448-4792 by Monday, Sept. 21. Tickets may also be purchased at the gate on game day.

Sunday, Sept. 27

  • 8 a.m.

The Alumni Tennis Tournament will begin at the Nicholls tennis courts. For additional information, or to enter, call (985) 448-4111.
