THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University students recently chose Ugochukwu Ezema of Kingston, Jamaica, to represent the institution as Mr. Nicholls – and Marquita Christy of Donaldsonville to reign as Ms. Nicholls.
The announcement was made at the university’s annual Crawfish Day celebration for students and employees.
Mr. and Ms. Nicholls nominees must have earned at least a 2.5 grade point average and must be active in student organizations. Finalists for the honor are selected by a committee of students, faculty and staff and chosen via popular vote by Nicholls students.

A former ambassador for the NAACP, disk jockey for KNSU and homecoming king, Ezema was also a member of Young Democrats and the Pre-Professional Medical Association.
Christy, a psychology major who plans to graduate in Spring 2010, is chapter vice president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and director of public relations for the Student Government Association. A former camp director and counselor for LA GEAR UP, Christy is also a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
