Student diversity to be celebrated at Nicholls banquet

THIBODAUX – The 2nd annual International Student Banquet at Nicholls State University is scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Bollinger Memorial Student Union.

Celebrating the diversity of Nicholls, the banquet will feature international cuisine; multicultural artistic performances by students from various nations; and student awards.

In addition, new students from Russia, China, Jordan and Finland will add their nations’ flags – via a ceremonial procession – to the 47 international flags already hanging from the student union ceiling.

Tickets to the banquet are $20 and can be purchased by calling (985) 449-7038. Those who cannot attend the banquet but would like to offer their support may send a donation to the Office of International Student Services, P.O. Box 2007, Thibodaux, La., 70310, with a check payable to Nicholls International Community.

The 157 international enrollees at Nicholls represent 43 nations – the top five of which are Nepal, France, the United Kingdom, Canada and Vietnam. Among the total, 30 are graduate students.

Most international students at Nicholls major in business, education, biology or chemistry.
