Ayo Pool at Nicholls closed

THIBODAUX – Ayo Swimming Pool at Nicholls State University will remain closed until further notice, university officials announced earlier this week. The 33-year-old pool, which is normally open from April to September each year, is closed due to tears and holes in the pool lining, leaks in the piping system and deterioration in the electrical system.

“The pool will remain closed until we can afford to complete the necessary repairs and reopen it for service,” Mike Davis, assistant vice president for administration, said. The total cost of repairs is estimated at $145,000. “Due to the tremendous budget cuts to higher education, the university simply doesn’t have the money for these costly repairs.”

The swimming pool at the La Maison du Bayou on-campus apartment complex will be available for Nicholls students with a valid Colonel Card. Continuing education activities such as water aerobics and swimming lessons will also be relocated to the La Maison swimming pool.
