Pell Grants available for summer 2010

THIBODAUX – Students at Nicholls State University may be eligible to receive Pell Grant funds for the summer 2010 sessions.

Prior to the 2009-10 award year, Pell Grant-eligible students who enrolled full-time for a fall semester and full-time for a spring semester received all of their scheduled awards at once, which meant there was no remaining Pell Grant eligibility to attend a summer session.

Effective this year, according to the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, a student may receive up to two scheduled Pell Grant awards within one award year. The new program is intended to help accelerate a student’s progress in a degree or certificate program.

To qualify, students must be Pell Grant-eligible during the 2009-10 award year; be enrolled at least half-time (six hours for financial aid purposes) in one of the summer sessions, a combination of the summer sessions or the BSN Exceptional Session; and meet all general eligibility requirements.

Students interested in attending Nicholls for any of the summer 2010 sessions or the BSN Exceptional Session are encouraged to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to the Nicholls Office of Financial Aid by June 30, 2010. This deadline is the same for all Title IV aid.
