Celebrate ‘Christmas through the Ages’ at Nicholls

THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University Concert Choir will present the annual Candlelight Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Talbot Theater on the Nicholls campus.

Themed “Christmas through the Ages,” the concert will feature Christmas songs and carols linked by poetry and scripture to tell the traditional Christmas story. Students from the choir will perform the narration, and stage lighting will change from selection to selection to enhance the holiday experience for attendees.

The concert will include arrangements of several Christmas songs from various periods in history, including “Silent Night,” “He is Born, the Divine Christ Child,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “Sing we Now of Christmas,” “Ancient Nova,” “Once on a Cold December Night,” “This Christmastide,” “Riu, Riu, Chiu” and “Adam Lay yBounden” — the last of which will be sung in the original Middle English.

Dr. Kenneth S. Klaus, professor of music and director of choral activities, will conduct. Featured performers will include pianist Michelle Parro, staff accompanist; pianist Dr. Luciana Soares, associate professor of music; soprano Kandice Theriot, junior instrumental music education major from Chauvin; soprano Sarah Sullivan, senior vocal music and accounting major from Woodstown, N.J.; soprano Kristen Martin-Bruce, junior vocal music education major from Houma; baritone soloist Kelly Rodrigue, university registrar; junior vocal music major Orin Gaskins from New Iberia; oboist Regina O’Connell from Dulac; and flautist Aaron Boquet, instrumental music major from Bourg.
