Nicholls cancels classes; issues phase III alert due to Tropical Storm Isaac

THIBODAUX – Due to the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac, the Nicholls State University Emergency Preparedness Committee has initiated a Phase III Alert in accordance with the university’s Hurricane Emergency Plan posted at https://emergency.www.nicholls.edu.

As a result, classes will be canceled Monday, Aug. 27 and Tuesday, Aug. 28.

Although students are not being evacuated from campus at this time, residence hall students are encouraged to return home to be with their families. Students who cannot return home will be permitted to remain in the residence halls until further notice. Should the forecast call for hurricane-force winds on the campus, residence hall students will be moved to the student union ballroom for the duration of the storm and until the residence halls are ready to reopen. Food service for all on-campus residence will continue until further notice.

Residence hall students should review the emergency preparedness handout available at https://emergency.www.nicholls.edu/wp-content/uploads/resident-hurricane-preparedness.pdf. The handout provides instruction on how to prepare for the storm as well as check-out and check-in procedures.

Nicholls faculty and staff are requested to report to work from 8-10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27 to assist with departmental storm preparations as outlined in the university’s Hurricane Emergency Plan posted at https://emergency.www.nicholls.edu.

Campus events scheduled for Monday and Tuesday are canceled,

Nicholls GTG childcare facility will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

The Emergency Preparedness Committee will continue to monitor the speed and path of the storm and will take additional action if necessary. Please continue to monitor the Nicholls website, www.nicholls.edu, and its emergency website, https://emergency.www.nicholls.edu, for updates.
