Campus kicks off spring Nicholls CAN! food drive

THIBODAUX — Nicholls State University will hold its spring Nicholls CAN! food drive from Friday, March 8 to Monday, March 25. Community members are encouraged to participate by donating nonperishable food, household items and/or cash to this campuswide service project benefitting local food banks.

Items may be dropped off at locations across campus, including the Bollinger Memorial Student Union, Callais Memorial Recreation Center and Ellender Memorial Library. Collection boxes are also located in all academic departments, so Nicholls alumni may also contribute to their former departments. New to this year’s drive is Can Wars, a creative competition whereby campus departments, organizations and groups will use the items they collect to build unique structures on Monday, March 18 in Shaver Gymnasium.

Since the Nicholls CAN! drive began in spring 2012, the goal has been to collect about 7,000 items per semester — approximately one for each Nicholls student and employee. This past fall, the campus and local community far exceeded that number by donating more than 12,500 items to Houma, Dulac and Morgan City food banks. The spring drive will benefit the food banks in Thibodaux, Raceland and Galliano.
