Louisiana Swamp Stomp Festival Scheduled for March 21-23

THIBODAUX — Nicholls State University will host the sixth annual Louisiana Swamp Stomp Festival, a musical celebration of south Louisiana culture, Friday, March 21, through Sunday, March 23.

The festival has been named one of March’s “Top 20 events in the Southeast” by the Southeast Tourism Society.

Visitors are invited to experience south Louisiana’s unique Cajun, Zydeco and Swamp Pop music, a variety of regional foods and presentations on local history, culture and economic development. Top cooks will perfect their roux at the annual Jumbo Gumbo Cook-Off Saturday, March 22, and you can burn off that gumbo at the annual 5K Can-Can and 1 Mile White Boot Waddle walk/run. There’s also a carnival, arts and crafts fair, and the Tresors du Bayou Educational Program, a popular attraction for thousands of primary and secondary school students.

Sponsors for this year’s event include: Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program; Jubilee Festival of the Arts; Louisiana Lottery; The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation, Inc. Community Partnership Grant; New Orleans Regional Arts Council; Peltier Foundation; and Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.

The Louisiana Swamp Stomp Festival is supported by a grant from the Louisiana State Arts Council through the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
