THIBODAUX — A team of students from Nicholls State University’s College of Business Administration has been selected to compete in a national business research competition sponsored by the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute.

Nicholls was one of two teams selected out of 23 competing regional universities in Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma to compete at the national competition in Denver on March 19. The winner of that national competition will go on to compete in a global event in Asia this April.

“Advancing to this level is a testament to the quality of the business program at Nicholls,” said Dr. Shawn Mauldin, dean of the College of Business Administration.

Participating teams must prepare a written research report on a company chosen for the competition. The team is required to give a buy/sell/hold recommendation as if they were making a professional investment recommendation for the firm.

The winning students include: Damian Despotovski, a finance senior from Thibodaux; Logan Cox, a finance senior from Ethel; Courtney Dupre, a finance senior from Houma; Huong-Tra Nguyen, an MBA graduate student from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; and Dmitry Lebedev, an MBA graduate student from Moscow, Russia. The students were coached by finance faculty members Dr. John Lajaunie and Dr. Shari Lawrence.
