Assistant Professor of Nursing
As a high school senior, Susan Dupre did not believe college was the right path for her. Her high school physical education instructor encouraged Dupre to enroll in college as a physical education major. Dupre resisted.
“I felt that was impossible. Going to college just was not for me,†Dupre says.
Yet 16 years later, Dupre achieved the impossible—she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Nicholls State University. Eight years after that, Dupre earned a master’s in nursing from Louisiana State University Medical Center. A year later, she was back at Nicholls as an assistant professor of nursing.
Dupre continues to exceed her personal expectations. She is most proud of developing and teaching the Perioperative Nursing course, the first nursing elective course with a clinical component in the BSN program.
“What I like most about my job is teaching students on an individual basis the skills that are needed to become a nurse,†she says.
In Dupre’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, especially Ryan Jr., her 18-month-old grandson.
