Associate Professor of Nursing
Christopher Pena may have taught nursing at Nicholls State University since 1983, but when mentioning the topics of his research he won’t just mention topics in the medical field — he’ll also include the Civil War battlefield.
Aside from serving as an associate professor of nursing, Pena is also a guest lecturer of History 371 — History of Louisiana and is a Civil War re-enactor. His interest in researching local history led him to write four books about the Civil War in Louisiana, several magazine articles and a chapter in the upcoming Lafourche Country III, to be published by the Lafourche Heritage Society.
Pena earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Nicholls in 2006 and will be team-teaching History 421 — Civil War in Louisiana this fall. He has conducted numerous Bayou Lafourche Civil War Battlefield Bus Tours to benefit the Clio (Nicholls history) Club and has taught classes pertaining to the Civil War in Louisiana via the Nicholls Office of Continuing Education program.
But that does not mean Pena has abandoned his nursing roots. He enjoys the personal touch the nursing department faculty provides to its students and takes pride in meeting with prospective students and their parents to discuss the strengths of the Nicholls nursing department.
