Nursing Mission Trip

The Department of Nursing provides the opportunity for upper-level nursing students to embark on a week-long medical mission trip during spring break. Participants provide free medical care at hospitals, clinics and orphanages in an impoverished country.

To participate, nursing students must have finished their program coursework through Nursing 355. Other majors may speak with the mission coordinator for permission to participate.

The cost is approximately $1,000 per student. Students may enroll and receive three honors credits in the Nursing 385 Global Health Care course, which meets throughout the spring semester.

2008 Mission
The 2008 trip will be to Guatemala from March 24-31.

History
Under the guidance of Dr. Adrienne Bethancourt, associate professor of nursing, a group of nursing students, friends, nurses and doctors led the first mission trip to Nicaragua to deliver care, love, hope, education and goodwill in spring 2004.

With the help of many, the Nursing Mission Trip has evolved into a formal course, Nursing 385 Honors Special Topics in Global Health Care, offered each spring.

The lives of many have been touched and changed forever by the experiences. We hope you consider joining the ones who have made a difference in our world. Join us in making the world a better place. It will change your life forever!
