Welcome to the Department of Music at Nicholls State University. We always have something going on and invite you to be part of it all. The faculty, the staff and the students all work to provide a variety of musical experiences for the university, the community and especially for ourselves. We love music. If you do too, you belong with us at Nicholls.

The Department of Music offers the courses and performance experiences that fulfill the requirements of our Bachelor of Arts degree in with possible concentrations in instrumental or vocal studies. We also offer a variety of music courses to the entire Nicholls community.

News:

Gilson Cornelio Filho, a violin student of James Alexander, won first place in the South Central Division of the MTNA Young Artist Competition in strings held in Austin, Texas. He qualifies to participate in the national competition in New York City this March.

Congratulations to the students who participated in the NATS Competition in Clinton, MS, in November 2011: semi finalists – Marissa Brown (Freshmen Women), Joshua Martin (Young Student Adult) and finalists – Jon Mangels (2nd place, Young Student Adult), Marvinlette Dorsey (3rd place, Young Student Adult), and Ivanna Brooks (4th place, Sophomore Women).
