Cristina Mendoza

Cristina E. Mendoza is in her sixth year as instructor of music in brass at Nicholls State University, where she also serves as an assistant director of bands and directs the Blue Bayou Big Band.

After graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s in trombone performance and literature, Mendoza earned her teacher certification in instrumental music at the University of Texas at Austin.

Mendoza is a member of the International Trombone Association, International Association for Jazz Education, College Band Directors National Association and Sigma Alpha Iota, as well as an honorary member of Tau Beta Sigma. Mendoza previously worked as a junior high and high school band director in Texas. She was also a private studio instructor in Texas and Indiana and currently maintains a large private studio in the Houma/Thibodaux area.

She has studied trombone and euphonium with Tom Ervin, Cason A. Duke, Susan K. Smith, Frank Crisafulli, Don Knaub, Mark Fisher, Steve Wolfinbarger and her father, Cruz G. Mendoza. Her conducting professors have included Jerry F. Junkin, Paula Crider, Greg Martin and Kenneth W. Dye.
