Mission
The Division of Music is committed to its reputation as a center of quality education in the performing arts that meets the multicultural needs of the region. We embrace the idea that music plays an important role in the enrichment of the general quality of life for the geographic area that the university serves. Our faculty strives to provide majors with opportunities that are practical in preparation for careers in music and the general student population with an understanding and appreciation of music.
To that end, the music faculty embraces teaching as its primary responsibility. The division offers programs leading to the completion of the Bachelor of Music Education degree with a concentration in instrumental or vocal music and a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree that allows students to pursue a music major combined with a career cluster of elective courses suited to the student’s individual interests.
