Lunch
Students should bring a lunch with them. The auditions will continue through lunch; therefore, light meals are recommended.
Attire
A solid black one-piece leotard or unitard is required. No t-shirts and/or shorts will be allowed. The judges will be looking for artistry and technique, not loud, bright, distracting colors. Absolutely no one will be allowed to audition without the use of some type of dance or light tennis shoe. Props may be used.
Procedures
1. Students will be briefly interviewed.
2. Prepare a one-minute routine. Students may receive assistance with design, however no two students should have the same routine. The audition may consist of one or more selections with varied styles. The selections should be pre-recorded on a CD or cassette tape at the beginning of side A. If more than one selection is used, edit the tape so that only one tape is necessary, and the selections progress from one to the next without any break or pause in sound.
3. Students will be taught a routine approximately one-minute in length. The students will then perform the routine in small groups. Students will be asked to perform fundamentals (kicks, splits, etc.).
Results
Results will be announced at the conclusion of the audition. Upon acceptance, the student may be required to pay a fifty dollar ($50) non-refundable deposit. The deposit will be applied to the purchase of practice and pep-rally uniforms for the 2008-2009 school year. Please have the cash deposit with you on the date of the audition. The game uniform is provided by Nicholls State University. The due date for the balance of funds will be announced at a later date. All girls selected will be awarded a service award in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500) annually. Upon acceptance of membership, the student acknowledges the responsibility to be at all rehearsals and performances involving the Colonelettes during the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the service award.
Captain Tryouts
Candidates for Captain Tryouts must have successfully completed both semesters as a member of the squad immediately prior to auditions (Fall 2007 and Spring 2008). Captain tryouts will be held once the squad is chosen. Each candidate will teach their dance to the other captain candidates. A short interview will also take place. Result will be announced at the conclusion of the audition.
