Dr. Richard McKnight
Professor of Psychology
Psychology is not just common sense, Dr. Richard McKnight says. It’s an exciting yet challenging field that requires a lot of effort for success.
McKnight began teaching at Nicholls in 1976 and served as the department head from 1984 to 1994.
“The Nicholls psychology program has been systematically designed to prepare students for graduate work in the field,” McKnight says. “The program is demanding but it provides an excellent foundation for those interested in advanced training.”
While McKnight’s primary research interests have been in the area of animal learning, he recently has collaborated with his colleagues, Dr. A.W. Price and Dr. Gary Rosenthal, in the development of a scale to assess perceptions of the profession of psychology. A number of research projects have already been completed using that scale.
