PT3 Training Sessions

Power Point Fundamentals: Basic steps for creating PowerPoint presentations using Auto Layouts. Includes design templates, customized backgrounds, insertion of text, bullets, graphics (clip art, digital photography, web graphics), WordArt, slide transitions, simple animation, hyperlinks, and PowerPoint etiquette.
 
Beyond Power Point Fundamentals: Slide masters, navigation tips, shortcuts and extras, speaker notes, automatic timing, animation, special effects, using the Draw toolbar, downloading and insertion of music, inserting video, various views and printing options, creating and using templates, using the Pack and Go feature.
 
Inspiration: Strategies for brainstorming and creating graphic organizers (idea webs, flowcharts, storyboards), extra tips and tricks, help features, formatting (text, background), inserting graphics, text boxes, outline view, drawing tools, spell check, templates, saving and printing. (If time, a brief overview of Kidspiration)
 
Microsoft Word: Toolbars; viewing options; working on multiple documents; editing, selecting, and formatting text; justifying and moving text; copy and paste; changing page margins and page layout, adding and using tabs, creating headers and footers, creating and customizing bulleted and numbered lists, typing multiple choice type tests; creating and customizing tables; creating columns; keyboard shortcuts.
 
Hardware Basics: In this course, we will examine hardware related to the processes of input (Serial, Parallel, USB, and FireWire; keyboard, mouse, trackball, digital camera, and scanner), operation (difference between RAM and ROM; difference between kilobytes, megabytes, and gigabytes), storage (hard drives; external storage devices such as floppy drives, CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD), and output (computer screen/ monitor, LCD projector, ink-jet and laser printers) in a computer system. Participants will begin to demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems.
 
Excel Fundamentals: Learn the basics of Office XP's spreadsheet, Excel. The content of this session designed for beginners includes navigation tips; data entry, data manipulation, as well as simple formatting tips that will allow you to use excel as both an administrative and instructional tool.
 
MS Office Graphics: Working with graphics in Word, PPT, and Excel. Includes: adding clip art and other graphics, editing and manipulating graphics (recoloring, reformatting, etc.), copying and inserting graphics from the web, inserting and editing AutoShapes, using the Draw toolbar (WordArt, text boxes, grouping, ordering, rotating and flipping, 3-D effects, lighting effects, etc.) A "must attend" session for teachers!
 
Internet as an Instructional Tool: Introduction to Internet browsers, book marking favorite sites (and organizing them), tips and tricks for navigating the web, search engines vs. directories, search strategies, assessing website credibility, educational sites of interest, copying and pasting from the web, saving sites to your computer, and copyright Fair Use guidelines.
 
Creating Interactive Learning Activities w/ Microsoft Office: Hyperlinking documents to each other, creating teacher-directed web searches, using the comment feature in Office documents, using the Forms Toolbar to create interactive learning activities, creating interactive PowerPoints (multiple choice, true false, etc.). You will also receive a Jeopardy template to use with your students.
 
Excel Intermediate: The content of this session designed for those with a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel. Participants will be guided through several formatting procedures designed to create functional and attractive spreadsheets and charts.
 

Excel Functions and Formulas: The content of this session designed for those with a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel who wish to expand their knowledge of the program’s capabilities. Participants will go beyond the basics to explore many of the programs mathematical formulas and logical reference functions.

 
Technology in the Elementary Classroom: A showcase of technology-connected projects and activities.
 
Technology in the Middle / Secondary School Classroom: A showcase of technology-connected projects and activities.
 
Digital Photography: Using digital photography in the classroom.
 
Web Page Design: The basics and how to's of designing webpages.
 
Creating Pamphlets and Brochures Using Microsoft Word: Learn how to create templates for pamphlets and brochures. Great for student assessment projects to display researched/learned content, for parents for Open-House, study tips, useful math formulas and tables, etc.
 

KidPix, KidWorks, and Tom Snyder Software (Graph Master, Graph Club, Timeliner): A Saturday training exploring elementary software. Tentative schedule:
