Welcome

From a premature infant whose lungs are underdeveloped to an elderly person with emphysema, respiratory therapy professionals evaluate, treat and care for patients with breathing and other cardiopulmonary disorders.

The Nicholls cardiopulmonary/respiratory care programs provide students with the academic, laboratory and clinical experiences needed to succeed in this challenging yet satisfying career field.

Nicholls offers an associate degree program to prepare students for careers as entry-level respiratory therapists. Our certificate and bachelor’s degree programs provide opportunities for credentialed/licensed professionals to pursue advanced credential, experiences and career opportunities.

Graduates of the Nicholls cardiopulmonary care/respiratory therapy programs are prepared for careers in a variety of health care settings and roles, depending on their education level and acquired credentials.

NOTE: The Advanced Cardiopulmonary Care concentration under the Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences has been identified as one of the academic programs being impacted by the current budgetary constraints placed on Nicholls State University.

Students interested in a career as a Respiratory Therapist should not be impacted by this decision.  Due to accrediation mandates, the Department of Allied Health Sciences will be implementing curriculum changes to the Associate of Science degree in Cardiopulmonary Care Science.  Graduates of this 2010-2011 curriculum will be eligible to sit for the registry examination for respiratory therapy.  Any students can contact the department at 985-493-2624 to schedule a meeting with a faculty advisor.  The Allied Health faculty members continue to serve as an excellent resource for professional career counseling and academic advising.
