Curriculum
The cardiopulmonary care science curriculum is divided into pre-professional and professional phases.

Pre-professional phase
The pre-professional phase includes biology, chemistry, anatomy, physics, microbiology, English, mathematics, psychology and computer science courses. It also introduces students to the cardiopulmonary profession, professional ethics and patient care techniques. The pre-professional phase consists of one fall, spring and summer semester. Students must apply and be accepted into the professional phase of the program. See admission requirements for more information.
Professional phase
The professional phase of the program allows students to gain clinical training in routine and special procedures applicable to pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. Courses emphasize patient care, life support and airway mechanics, cardiovascular monitoring (including electrocardiography and cardiac ultrasound) and therapeutic methods. Students learn through hands-on experience in laboratories and local hospitals.
Students perform therapeutic techniques and diagnostic procedures on patients in the following areas:
- General patient care
- Neonatal, pediatric and adult critical care
- Emergency care
- Home care
- Surgery
- Labor and delivery
- Pulmonary and cardiovascular diagnostics
- General pediatrics
- Pulmonary rehabilitation
- Sleep medicine
All required courses must be completed with at least a C to qualify for the associate degree.
