Curriculum

The advanced cardiopulmonary care concentration includes upper-level allied health sciences courses in addition to advanced respiratory therapy coursework.

Respiratory therapy coursework
Respiratory therapy coursework includes 17 credit hours of academic, laboratory and clinical experiences in diagnostic testing and monitoring techniques, pharmacology, management and cardiovascular technology.

Required respiratory therapy courses include:

  • RSPT 301 — Advanced Cardiopulmonary Pathophysiology — 3 credit hours
  • RSPT 302 — Advanced Cardiopulmonary Diagnostics and Monitoring — 3 credit hours
  • RSPT 303 — Perinatology and Pediatrics — 3 credit hours
  • RSPT 304 — Advanced Respiratory Therapy Pharmacology — 3 credit hours
  • RSPT 305 — Departmental Management and Supervision — 2 credit hours
  • RSPT 306 — Advanced Comprehensive Respiratory Therapeutics — 3 credit hours

Allied health courses
In addition to the respiratory therapy courses, the curriculum allows students to improve their communication skills through general education courses, pursue additional health care credentials through chosen electives and become a well-rounded health care professional through advanced allied health courses. Students should speak with their adviser about their elective preferences and career goals before scheduling.

Advanced standing
The advanced cardiopulmonary care concentration requires 123 credit hours, some of which students may have earned while working toward their associate degree. In addition, advanced standing may be granted to individuals who hold a credential and/or license in the health care field. Eligible students are awarded 30 semester hours of credit toward their degree upon completion of Allied Health Sciences 440, 442 and 450.
