Admission Requirements

Students applying for admission to the advanced course offerings in respiratory therapy must comply with the clinical requirements of the Department of Allied Health Sciences and meet the following cardiopulmonary care science requirements:

  • be graduates of a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited entry-level respiratory therapy program,
  • be credentialed as a CRT (Entry Level Certified Respiratory Therapist) by the National Board for Respiratory Care and/or licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners,
  • be employed by an accredited/licensed health care facility and
  • hold an associate degree with a minimum of one college course in:
    • chemistry,
    • physics,
    • anatomy and physiology,
    • microbiology,
    • computer science,
    • mathematics and
    • English.

It is also suggested that applicants have 12 months of validated clinical experience and be employed by an accredited/licensed health care facility.
