The mission of the Nicholls cardiopulmonary care science and advance respiratory therapy programs is to prepare student to be productive, responsible and engaged citizens who can meet the health care needs of Louisiana and beyond. This is accomplished through quality teaching, research and service in a personalized, culturally rich and dynamic learning environment. While the programs promote research and appropriate service, teaching is its primary mission. The programs are dedicated to continuous quality improvement through systematic assessment and evaluation of program outcomes, processes and current and former students.

Emphasis is placed on producing graduates to work as professionals in various venues where the practice of respiratory therapy occurs. The programs of study strive to broaden the scope of practice by teaching students certain components of cardiovascular technology.

The programs encourage and challenge students to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills to improve their marketability and job security. First and foremost, however, the programs foster these skills to improve patient care.

The programs attempt to create an atmosphere wherein faculty can achieve their potential as scholars and teachers. The faculty is encouraged to mold future decision of the programs in response to changes occurring in health care delivery.
