Alex Barnes
Alex is getting his start in criminal justice, government and psychology courses and with a job as sergeant of the Campus Student Officers. He’s also serving as the Student Government Association president. “Getting involved gives me a sense of community and builds pride,” Alex says. “As a member of the Nicholls community, I believe I should have a say in what’s going on here. I think that’s a good attitude for anyone to have.” The Campus Student Officers program, run through University Police, offers students an opportunity to provide security for special campus events, monitor residence hall activities and alert University Police of any situations needing attention. Alex is the immediate supervisor for the force of 10 to 20 student officers. He hires the officers, arranges their training and creates their work schedules and assignments. Alex, who has always been interested in law and government, hopes to use those experiences to get a job as an FBI agent or a U.S. marshal. |

Nicholls involvement:

I’m also a former NAACP president, the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity chaplain and the president of Interfraternity Council. I also serve on several university committees.
Current employment:
I work as the sergeant and immediate supervisor for the Campus Student Officers program, through University Police.
I chose to attend Nicholls because …
… I had received information in the mail about it and heard that Nicholls had a good government program. It’s also at the perfect location. I’m away from home but I can get home if I need to without having to drive for hours.
When I can find spare time, I enjoy …
… hanging out with my fraternity brothers, swimming and just being outdoors.
What I will always remember about Nicholls is …
… the family-oriented environment. I knew Nicholls was located in a small town and was not expecting people to be so friendly and open-minded. I was pleasantly surprised.
