Jessica Johnson

jess1.jpgJessica Johnson loves art and the ability to be creative. But she doesn’t want her future to lie on an easel or in clay. She wants to help people … through her art.

Despite being a sociology student, Jessica is considering a future career in prosthetic limbs. After graduating from Nicholls, she may apply to a 16-month training program to learn how to create prosthetic limbs that fit her patients’ needs and bodies. Her interest in prosthetics grew after speaking with her brother during his military service in Iraq.

“He often told me about people who were in unfortunate situations, and my heart went out to them,” Jessica says. “I would especially love to be able to help troops recover from their injuries.”

Jessica believes that a combination of sociology and sculpture classes will greatly enhance her future in prosthetics.

Nicholls involvement:
I am a member of the Nicholls Ambassadors and Precious Jewels (an organization of Nicholls women with Christian values). I am also active in programs sponsored by the Baptist Collegiate Ministry.

Current employment:
I am a student worker in the Nicholls Office of Financial Aid. My job consists of anything from filing paperwork to reading reports for counselors. Usually the work isn’t difficult, but once registration starts, it becomes hectic for the people working at the window. I want to make sure I know exactly what I’m doing so that I can help students receive their financial aid. I love the people I work with. They are easy to get along with and show me exactly what I need to do.

I chose to attend Nicholls because …
… I like how the campus is set up, and everyone was so friendly when I visited. I was impressed with the programs of study offered here. Plus, everyone I knew who came to Nicholls told me it was a really good school. I agree.

When I can find spare time, I enjoy …
… catching up on my sleep and hanging out with my friends.

What I will always remember about Nicholls is …

… joining Precious Jewels and meeting the women in that group. As a Christian, it’s sometimes hard to find Christian friends. Being able to join such a strong group of women means the most to me.
