Kristi Badeaux

It was the breakthroughs, the “Aha” moments, that convinced Kristi Badeaux that she had finally chosen the right degree program.

After transferring to Nicholls her sophomore year and changing her major multiple times, Kristi became a student worker for Generations Teaching Generations Preschool, located in Betsy Cheramie Ayo Hall.

There, in the classroom of 3- and 4-year-olds, she watched one student finally master a new letter of the alphabet and another, who usually refused to take a nap, sleep.

“Working at the preschool has provided me with great experience and confirmed that this is what I want to do after graduation,” Kristi says. “It’s really exciting to brighten their day and be there for their big moments.”

Kristi also rejoices in the breakthroughs she witnesses on the weekends — when she’s working at Catholic teen retreats and participating in diocesan events.

Nicholls involvement:
I am a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, Circle K, Catholic Daughters and Orientation Team, as well as a Student Government Association senator.

I chose to attend Nicholls because …
… I wanted to be closer to home, and Nicholls feels more like home than the larger university I attended for my first year. I had no idea that the birth to five/early interventionist education program was even available. Before transferring, I had majored in three different areas of agriculture. Once at Nicholls, I began exploring options within the College of Education, knowing that I enjoyed working with children. It wasn’t until I became a student worker at the on-campus preschool that I learned about the program.

When I can find spare time, I enjoy …
… being active in my Catholic faith both on campus and within the diocese. I attend and work retreats and simply enjoy being around and interacting with people.

After college, I plan to …
… work in a preschool. As a student worker in the Generations Teaching Generations Preschool, I have picked up lots of ideas that I can use in a classroom of my own. I also now have experience assisting teachers, creating bulletin boards and facilitating art projects.

What I will always remember about Nicholls …
… is being part of a sorority. It’s allowed me to broaden my experiences and has helped me get my foot in the door. I never would have known about or joined Circle K had I not gone through sorority recruitment once I transferred to Nicholls. I also enjoy being a part of the Nicholls orientation process and working to make other students’ experiences at Nicholls as successful as mine has been.
