Stacy Goss

fountain.jpgIt took a natural disaster for Stacy Goss to discover the gem in her backyard.

Like many others, Stacy wanted to move away from home to attend college, enrolling in the University of New Orleans. However, she wasn’t on campus for much longer than a week when Hurricane Katrina hit.

“I thought of Nicholls as a small campus where practically everyone from my high school was going,” Stacy says. “When I enrolled at Nicholls after the hurricane, I realized it was nothing like I had expected.”

Stacy had no intention of joining a sorority. However, one day while walking through the Student Union to buy her books, she ran into a group of sorority members who encouraged her to go through rush.

“It was a very spontaneous decision,” Stacy says. “I love my sorority and would advise anyone to rush no matter what sorority you choose to go with. Once you’re in a sorority, you’re not just coming to campus for your classes. The bonds of sisterhood and the opportunities to get involved will make all the difference in your college experience.”

Working toward: a bachelor’s degree in psychology

Expected graduation date: Fall 2009

High school: Ellender High School

Hometown: Houma, La.

Nicholls involvement:
I’m a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and former activities chair, a former delegate to the National Panhellenic Council, a member of the Psychology Club and a Nicholls Ambassador.

What I enjoy the most about psychology is …
… getting to know why we have different personalities and why we do the things we do. The behavior of people is very interesting. At first, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to major in business or psychology, so I took the introductory course in each program. I soon fell in love with psychology and knew this was wanted I wanted to do.

After college, I plan to …
earn my master’s and doctorate degrees in psychology. I would like to open my own practice someday, probably specializing in therapy of some kind.

When I have spare time, I enjoy …
… shopping and hanging out with the girls. There’s never a dull moment.
