Assistant Professor of Education
Teaching preschool and kindergarten classes isn’t as easy as reciting the alphabet.
Dr. Lisa Lauer has done extensive research on the intricacies of early childhood education, from literacy development and parent involvement to brain development and school-home collaboration.
Before joining the Nicholls staff in 2002 as an assistant professor of education, Lauer taught prekindergarten and kindergarten classes at Ecole-Classique Children’s Center, the University of New Orleans Children’s Center and in St. Charles Parish School System.
Now, Lauer prides herself on delivering hands-on, interactive and informative lessons to her classes and maintaining a personal relationship with her students throughout their years at Nicholls.
“The teacher education department’s greatest strength lies in its ability to produce outstanding teachers who advocate for their students to become life-long learners and also advocate for families and education of the society as a whole,” Lauer says.
In her spare time, Lauer enjoys reading, visiting her family, traveling and going to the theater.
